\u201cMy eyes have seen your salvation\u201d (Lk<\/i>\u00a02:30).\u00a0 These are the words of Simeon, whom the Gospel presents as a simple man: \u201crighteous and devout\u201d, says the text (v.\u00a025).\u00a0 But among all at the temple that day, he alone saw Jesus as the Saviour.\u00a0 What did he see?\u00a0 A child: a small, vulnerable, simple child.\u00a0 But in him he saw salvation, for the Holy Spirit allowed him to recognize in that tender newborn \u201cthe Lord\u2019s Christ\u201d (v. 26).\u00a0 Taking him in his arms, he sensed by faith that in him God was bringing his promises to fulfilment.\u00a0 And that he, Simeon, could now go in peace: he had seen the grace that was worth more than life (cf.\u00a0Ps<\/i>\u00a063:4), and there was nothing further to wait for.<\/p>\n

You too, dear consecrated brothers and sisters, you are simple men and women who caught sight of the treasure worth more than any worldly good.\u00a0 And so you left behind precious things, such as possessions, such as making a family for yourselves.\u00a0 Why did you do this?\u00a0 Because you fell in love with Jesus, you saw everything in him, and enraptured by his gaze, you left the rest behind.\u00a0 Religious life is this\u00a0vision<\/i>.\u00a0 It means seeing what really matters in life.\u00a0 It means welcoming the Lord\u2019s gift with open arms, as Simeon did.\u00a0 This is what the eyes of consecrated men and women behold: the grace of God poured into their hands.\u00a0 The consecrated person is one who every day looks at himself or herself and says: \u201cEverything is gift, all is grace\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
