Oblates’ day of recollection

15 September 2024 By mniszki

Testimonial by participants of the day of recollection

We have the finding of the cross every day, and its exaltation very rarely!

Mother Mechtilde of the Blessed Sacrament

On the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, a day of recollection was held for the oblates of our monastery. Once again, the oblates had the opportunity to hear more about Mechtildean spirituality.

The meeting began with a festive morning Mass. The first conference dealt with the role of the cross and suffering in the Mother Mechtilde’s writings. Then we heard more about the story of Sr Ignacja Rejewska, Mothers spiritual daughter – one of the sisters who offered herself to the Lord and died on the memorable day of 31 August 1944. We understand her conscious choice of martyrdom better through her ‘Spiritual Diary’, which survived the conflagration of the war.

The afternoon conference dealt with the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross and its significance in Benedictine spirituality.

Of course, there was also time for adoration, the common Liturgy of the Hours and casual conversation. We finished the meeting with vespers and a blessing with the Blessed Sacrament. It was a fruitful time!
