This is the 81st anniversary of the deaths of 4 priests, 34 Benedictine nuns of the Blessed Sacrament, 2 religious sisters, 12 orphans, and approximately 1,000 residents of Warsaw under the rubble of St. Casimir’s Church! On Sunday, August 31st, a Holy Mass was celebrated for those who died in the Warsaw Uprising and for the elevation to the altars of Sister Maria Tomea and her companions – the Benedictine Nuns of the Blessed Sacrament, who suffered martyrdom during the Warsaw Uprising, having previously voluntarily offered their lives to God for the city, homeland, and the world – was concelebrated by: our chaplain – Father Andrzej Tulej, Father Robert Ogrodnik, who delivered the homily, Father Adam Petakiewicz – pastor of our parish, Father Roman Batorski, pastor of the Słubice parish, where Sister Katarzyna Kuźmińska came from; Father Mariusz Mazurkiewicz, CSsR, vicar of the Provincial; and Father Kazimierz Kurek, SDB.
The anniversary celebrations were graced by the presence of representatives of the Riflemen’s Brotherhood.
The ceremony concluded with a communal prayer in the church crypt and a meeting with light refreshments in the room behind the sacristy.
